Training
Dry Land Training
The idea behind dry lands is to stay in shape during the off season. Dry lands involve running and leg strength drills. Believe it or not they are a lot of fun. Dry Lands are completely optional, but highly recommended. It never hurts to have extra preparation and be in good shape. Dryland will start Thursday, October 8th. Drylands will be run Sundays and Thursdays at 5 PM, and we will meet by the indoor track in Gantcher gym. Captains will email the elist the day of dryland practice, so make sure you check frequently because the dryland time / location may be subject to change.
Ski Training
As soon as second semester begins, we start ski training regularly. Regular weekly practice days will be announced later in the semester. There will either be an e-mail or an announcement during the weekly meeting to let everyone know what the focus of the practice will be (Slalom or Giant Slalom).
Waterville Training Camp
During the last week of winter break we have a week long training session at Waterville Valley in New Hampshire. We ski everyday under the careful eyes of our coaches, instructors, and fellow teammates who provide useful advice. It’s a great time to hone your skills and improve before we head into the season. This training session is the first time the team gets to ski together. FRESHMEN this is a great time to get to know your fellow teammates if you have not yet done so! On top of that it is a lot of fun.
Dates: 1/11/10 – 1/15/10
This year’s Waterville camp differs from previous years in that we have our first race at Killington the weekend before the camp. This means that we will likely meet at Tufts on Friday, January 8th (1/8/10) and drive up to the first race weekend at Killington. We will then drive from Killingoton to Waterville on the evening of the 10th, ski at Waterville all week, and return to Killington for our second race weekend 1/16/10 -1/17/10. More info on this will be posted in the coming weeks.
Summer and Fall Training (Mt. Hood)
Every summer several members of the Tufts Alpine Ski Team go to Mt. Hood for some summer racing practice. This is an excellent chance to work on your racing with a coach to athlete ratio close to 1:1. Incoming freshmen and current team are encouraged to participate.
